Pick 2 Post

All About My Christmas

Hey guys! Today I want to talk a little bit about what my family does for Christmas. Every year we go to my grandmas for the holidays. Usually we do it a few weeks before Christmas because they go to Florida for the winter. My uncles, dad, and I usually go fishing a lot during break and then we take a big trip right after Christmas up to Lake of the Woods for a week. Its a blast! Another Christmas tradition we do is get together on Christmas day and go to church with my dads side of the family. Its fun to see all the cousins and spend time with family! Now people ask em all the time which is better, real trees? Or fake trees? I like fake trees as they are convenient, easy to set up and store, and you don't get a bunch of loose needles on the ground. That's just my opinion! A few good holiday memories I remember all come from my time after Christmas when i'm up fishing. I make so many memories with my friends and family. Everything from fishing with no hooks on, giant walleyes, and football on the ice. Its a blast!

Christmas Without My Grandma

Now I want to talk a little about the not so fun part of Christmas. About 3 years ago now my Great Grandma passed away. She lived in Arizona up until she had a stroke and moved to Minnesota to live with my grandparents. Me and her were really close. She would always give me life advice and tell me how special I was as I was the first Great grandchild. She loved Christmas and she loved the snow. I remember one day we sat and watched the snowfall and she had the biggest smile on her face. It was so fun when I got to be with her and Christmas time is the hardest time to be without her. I miss her a lot and she had a huge influence on my life. I will always remember her!

10 Must Haves for the Beginner Waterfowler

10. Duck and Goose Calls of your Choice and Preference

This is very important to have in your hunting arsenal. Its such a simple and (sometimes) inexpensive piece that it is dumb NOT to have! make sure you get a call that fits your environment, hand, style, and you KNOW HOW TO blow it properly. It will help you shoot tons of ducks and geese!

9. Quality Waders

These are very important to have when hunting any water. You never know when you'll have to go out and untangle decoys, pick up ducks, throw sticks out of your spread and so on. Again make sure these fit your body type and style preference. You will not regret this purchase!

8. Layout Blind

This is essential when field hunting. It will allow you to hide a lot better and set up away from the edge because the birds wont always come in that close to a tree line. Buy these at cheap prices as they WILL get beat up, dirty, and torn.

7. A Float-able Blind Bag

This doesn't have to be "Float-able" but it sure is nice. They really come in handy for holding your shells, snacks, license, and cell phone. You never know when something will get bumped and fall in and if its your bag your gonna wish you went with a float-able bag!

6. Realistic Decoys

These are very important if not the MOST important. Without these you have ZERO chance of getting birds to come in. You need decoys to help draw the birds attention and let them come in.

5. Decoy Bag

This helps hold your decoys and keep them all in one area. Again, this doesn't have to be expensive. Just go get a cheap mesh bag for 5 bucks as it will get torn, wet, and muddy.

4. Camo Jacket

Camo is essential when hunting ducks and geese. Believe it or not they are very smart birds and will be looking for you. They wont come in if you are not in camo and fully covered.

3. Hand Warmers

These will help a lot in the later months of the year. You will be surprised at how fast you get cold while sitting on the bank of an icy river or in the middle of a snow covered field. These are small, cheap, convenient, and a MUST HAVE!!

2. Your Weapon of Choice

Your weapon of choice is really any shotgun you can afford and FEEL COMFORTABLE using. Ensure yourself that you understand how the gun works. It will break in the field and you need to understand and know how to put it back together in a hurry. This will benefit you a lot in future use.

1. Great Friends to Share Your Memories With

This is THE most important thing when doing any sort of hunting or fishing. Remember, the hunt means NOTHING if you cant share it with your family and friends. Those memories of shooting ducks and geese wont stay as long as the memories you make with your buddies. Stay safe and HUNT HARD!!

(Me #39)
I went fishing with my dad in Spicer, Minnesota for bass. When I was fishing that day I caught a fish I will never forget. I caught my personal best bass ever witch is 5lbs and 2oz. I was throwing a half ounce chatter bait in the middle of the lake and I felt a hit on the end of my line. I let the fish take the bait and I set the hook. When I set the hook I thought it was a small fish because it swam toward me. After about a couple of seconds I could tell this was going to be my biggest fish. I put my drag down a bit so I would not break this fish off. I told my dad to grab the net once I had the fish almost up to the boat. I landed the fish and took the hook out to weigh it and once I say the scale I was exited because it was my best bass I have ever caught.

Line in the Water!

Hey Guys! Well its official! as of last night (December 13, 2018) I finally got my first line in the water of the 2018 ice fishing season. This year I got a wayyyyy later start than previous years but it felt really good to hear the hum of the Vexilar and feel the line tighten up as i reeled in fish. My buddy and I went on an impromptu last minute fishing trip to Lake Sagatagan on the back side of a local college near my house. We got a way later start than we had originally planned but we hit the night bight on the crappies and had a lot of fun. About 6:30 we were starting to get hungry so we broke out our grill and some frozen burgers to grill. Letting our stomachs lead the way and take control of our minds new decided it would be just fine to grill the burgers inside the house. We obviously didn't think this through because within minutes it was so smokey in the fish house that we could hardly see each other. Long story short we ended up ordering a pizza. We ate our pizza, caught some fish, broke in our gear for the year, and had a blast hanging out in the middle of the frozen tundra. Stay safe our there guys, and GOOD LUCK FISHING!!

My Life Flashed Before My Eyes

Hey Guys! Today I want to tell you a story about the time i was hunting and we flipped our boat. We were heading up river after a great morning of hunting when we came upon some unexpected rocks. We decided it was to risky to try and get the motor through so I decided to walk us through the rocks and back to open water. We got about half way through when I felt the bottom drop away from my feet. I grabbed a hold of the boat before my waders could fill with water and pull me under. As I did this my buddy who was in the boat launched forward to grab my hand. Now those of you who know anything about a 12 foot V bottom boot is that they're not very sturdy. So of course with all the weight on one side we put one corner of the boat under and the water rushed in like a flowing waterfall. I quickly let go of the boat, jumped back into the neck high water with rocks all around me and held up the boat with all the strength in me. My waders were full of water and I was scared I was going to get sucked under and die. My buddy jumped out, yanked me and the boat to shore, and sat down with a sigh of relief. We dried off our guns and accessed the damage. After awhile of relaxing and calming our nerves we set out into the treacherous water yet again and made our way to shore for a dry towel and a big warm breakfast. Be safe out there guys as you never know when your life will flash before your eyes!

The Duck Plucker Review!

Hello Readers! Today I want to share with you a product that WILL, make your life 10 times easier when you are done with your hunt. Its called The Duck Plucker. It's manufactured by "Lucky Buck" a company out of Missouri. It is a device with rubber "fingers" that spins at a high rate of speed. Hold your duck firmly by the wings and run the breast vertically along the spinning wheel. It enables you to completely pluck your ducks in a matter of seconds with zero manual labor required. It helps the breasting process to go a lot smoother and faster. This machine does not cost a whole lot starting at around 35$ for the plucking head. Its a piece of equipment that will save you time, money, cuts on your fingers from when you cant see the tip of your knife through all the feathers, and is a lot of fun to use. There is nothing else like this on the market and it is a MUST to have in your duck and goose hunting arsenal. This item is a 10! and needs to be on YOUR Christmas list this winter season! Go check it out today!!!

Greenhead Beat Down!

Hello readers! My most recent duck hunt was on the Sauk River near my house in St. Joe. Me and my buddy headed out just as the banks were starting to ice up. We set up a small spread of mallards near this fallen tree in the bend of the river. It was cold but we stuck it out as we heard shooting all around us and knew it would pay off soon. We waited patiently for the ducks to arrive. A short while later my buddy and I were in full fledged calling mode. We called and had tons of ducks piling into our
decoys. Birds falling in over the trees and zooming by our blind at the speed of light. A few shots later and we had limited out on BIG green heads. Needless to say it was a very short hunt. We packed up our small spread, got in the boat, and made our way back home to a warm house and a big breakfast. It was a hunt I will never forget!

How To Make Goose Jerky

Step 1: Take all goose breasts from the season and put them through the meat grinder. (For thinner more chewy jerky you'll want to fillet strips directly from the breast)

Step 2: Take ground meat and add seasoning and jerky cure
Step 3: Put ground meat with seasoning and cure into a "Jerky Gun"
Step 4: Get smoker or dehydrator set up, cleaned, and ready to use
Step 5: Send jerky through "Jerky Gun" and make as big of strips as you would like
Step 6: Turn on smoker or dehydrator, leave for approximately 8-10 hours checking periodically
Step 7: Cool
Step 8: Enjoy!
